TAKING LONG WALKS JUST BECAUSE WE ARE TIRED OF WALKING

Four Artists, Four Visions, A Journey That Continues

Elisa Cella, Loredana Galante, Anna Nutini and Vania Elettra Tam
Galleria Civica d’Arte Albani, Urbino

“The only way to get along with life is to be at odds with ourselves,” writes Fernando Pessoa in The Book of Disquiet. This sentence provides the starting point for Taking Long Walks Just Because We Are Tired of Walking, a group exhibition bringing together the artistic practices of Elisa Cella, Loredana Galante, Anna Nutini and Vania Elettra Tam. The exhibition now arrives at the Galleria Civica d’Arte Albani in Urbino, following its first presentation last June at Casa di Rigoletto in Mantua, under the patronage of the Municipality of Mantua.

The project thus continues its journey, preserving the core from which it originated while allowing itself to be shaped, each time, by the spaces and contexts that welcome it. The exhibition is conceived not as a destination, but as an experience in motion: an invitation to slow down, observe, pause and be surprised by the possibilities that emerge when four distinct artistic sensibilities enter into dialogue.

Borrowed from Pessoa, the title evokes a state of disquiet that is not understood here as immobility or disorientation, but rather as openness. It is precisely within uncertainty, divergence and contradiction that new spaces can emerge for artistic exploration, dialogue and encounter.

The works of the four artists move across different languages and imaginaries, while nevertheless weaving a shared narrative. Elisa Cella develops geometries and forms that, drawing on scientific references, evolve into possible cosmogonies and opportunities for re-enchantment. Loredana Galante creates works in which poetic and performative dimensions invite viewers to move beyond the surface and reflect on relationships. Anna Nutini brings to life contorted, vulnerable and, at the same time, utterly free bodies, set within everyday scenarios suspended between irony and paradox. Vania Elettra Tam, meanwhile, reworks the memory of images and objects from everyday life through an irony that dismantles, recomposes and rewrites established narratives.

Four independent artistic practices that, through dialogue, move beyond a simple sequence of individual works to become part of a single visual and conceptual landscape. The exhibition layout is conceived as an interconnected organism, in which the works interact and influence one another, creating unexpected juxtapositions, suggesting affinities and opening up new and unforeseen paths of interpretation.

Within this exploration, the feminine is not presented as a closed category or as a subject to be illustrated, but rather as a way of seeing, an attitude of openness to listening, transformation and crossing boundaries. A dimension capable of questioning what is taken for granted and generating new forms of connection and closeness.

The Urbino exhibition therefore marks a new chapter in this ongoing journey, conceived from the outset as a project able to travel on, encountering new places, new audiences and new contexts. Following Mantua and Urbino, further destinations are currently under consideration and may be announced in the coming months.

The opening will be accompanied by a theatrical reading by Silvia Sala, drawn from Fernando Pessoa’s The Book of Disquiet. Through words and voice, the performance will evoke the same poetic tension from which the exhibition takes its inspiration.

For the “long walks” evoked by the title are not necessarily an escape or a form of getting lost. Rather, they offer a different way of moving through time: slowing down when everything seems to demand speed, losing our way in order to see more clearly, walking without a precise destination in order to make room for encounters and discoveries.

And perhaps this is precisely the invitation of the exhibition: not to arrive too quickly, but to allow ourselves the time to walk.
