“Sensitive Territories” arrives in Muccia: art meets a territory in transformation
The second stage of the exhibition brings 62 artists to the Marche hinterland, at the “Prof. Cesare Lami” Community Centre

After its first stage in Montegiorgio, Territori Sensibili moves to Muccia, in the province of Macerata, where from 22 September to 4 October the exhibition brings together the work of 62 artists from across Italy at the Centro Polifunzionale “Prof. Cesare Lami”.
The choice of venue adds a particular dimension to this second stage. The Community Centre was built following the 2016 earthquake that affected the area and was conceived as a place combining services with spaces for community life and socio-cultural activities. With its covered piazza, it was designed not only as a functional structure, but also as a place for meeting, exchange and collective life. It bears the name of Prof. Cesare Angelucci Lami, remembered for his commitment to the local community.
In this context, Territori Sensibili takes on a meaning that goes beyond the simple transfer of an exhibition from one town to another. The works enter a place marked by transformation, where the relationship between territory, memory and community is particularly tangible.
The exhibition, curated by Luigi Lai and Nancy Biraschi and organised by MoonArt Gallery, explores the relationship between contemporary art and the places that host it. Montegiorgio and Muccia become two points of encounter within the Marche hinterland, bringing attention to territories often distant from the principal cultural and tourist circuits.
The idea of a “sensitive territory” refers to a place capable of preserving traces: memories, transformations, absences, relationships. A territory can be fragile, but it can also generate new forms of connection and renewal. Art, in this perspective, does not simply occupy a space. It can help bring renewed attention to it, creating opportunities for dialogue and cultural exchange.
The exhibition also connects with a broader reflection on the role of small urban centres and on the possibilities of cultural and urban regeneration. In Muccia, this reflection acquires a concrete dimension through a place that was itself created in response to a profound transformation of the territory.
The 62 artists bring different languages, materials and perspectives to this encounter. Their works form a kind of non-geographical map, made of perceptions, memories, fragments and interpretations. Two places in the Marche hinterland thus become part of a wider dialogue between art and territory.
