Millepiani and Fabula Works are proud to present Skin, Storms and Light, a duo exhibition bringing together the works of London-based artist Jasmine De Silva and Canadian artist Rod Mireau.

Though emerging from very different visual universes, both artists share a deeply material approach to image-making. Through staging, lighting, sculptural elements, De Silva and Mireau build emotionally rich worlds by hand before translating them into images.

In her ongoing Crystal Queens series, Jasmine De Silva creates surreal portraits populated by women covered in shimmering crystals, suspended between glamour, performance and transformation. Drawing from retrofuturism, pop aesthetics and beauty culture, her work playfully satirises contemporary obsessions with physical perfection and self-image, while exposing the pressure of visibility and artificial enhancement imposed upon bodies.

Rod Mireau approaches photography through memory, scale and reconstruction. After more than two decades working as a sculptor, he began building miniature scenes inspired by fragmented recollections of his childhood on the Canadian prairies. Using HO scale models, artificial storms, smoke and carefully orchestrated lighting, Mireau constructs dreamlike landscapes oscillating between remembrance and imagination.

With Skin, Storms and Light, Millepiani and Fabula Works highlight a photographic practice grounded in craftsmanship. At a time when images are increasingly generated instantaneously and immaterially, both artists remind us that photography can still emerge from touch, construction and lived experience.
