As part of CONDOTTO48’s two-year programme, structured around a series of educational initiatives and multidisciplinary encounters, the project Le monde après la pluie by the Franco-Brazilian artist Eva Medin is presented, curated by Valeria De Siero, with the patronage of Rome Municipality VI, the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici, and the support of Terracromata and Carbone Ar’dente.
Le monde après la pluie is the title of the artist’s video work of the same name, inspired by Max Ernst’s painting (L'Europe après la pluie II, 1940–1942) and by the science fiction novel by Philippe Curval.
By blending the languages of cinema, dance, music, and sculpture, Eva Medin revisits the themes of transformation and hybridity — already present in the works of Ernst and Curval — emphasising the role of water within the process of the subject’s metamorphosis which, through moments of deconstruction and degeneration, becomes formless, unfinished, a vital impulse.
The narrative component and sci-fi imagery present in her practice reflect her interest in “emancipatory fictions,” capable of connecting the reality of the present with the potential of the future through a thoughtful interpretative lens.
Eva Medin (Lumiar, Novo Friburgo, Brazil, 1988) is a Franco-Brazilian artist based in Marseille (FR). Raised in a multicultural environment, with a Tunisian mother and an Argentine father — a mime and musician — her artistic work is deeply influenced by the power of the natural environment in which she grew up during her childhood, as well as by theatrical and musical heritage. Through her studies in set design at the Monaco Art School (Pavillon Bosio) and her degree from the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, she began collaborating with the world of dance, developing a multidisciplinary and immersive practice in which the relationship between space and the body plays a central role.
In recent years she has received several awards, including the Prix des Amis du Palais de Tokyo, the Art Collector Prize, and the Talent Contemporain Prize. Among her recent solo exhibitions are shows at the Palais de Tokyo (2022) and the Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles (2024). She has exhibited at the Manifesta Biennial in Marseille, the Salon de Montrouge, and Nuit Blanche in Paris, and has participated in group exhibitions in London, Los Angeles, and at MOCA Taipei.
