This exhibition aims to bear witness to the crisis of the past, of our time.
It is the manifestation of a tragedy unfolding today, with difficult prospects and many fears.
The bodies hollowed out by fire, reduced to shadows, are close to us.
Papier collé, abraded and transfigured, signs left by time.
Paper macerated to form residual bodies, burned and hollowed out by fire.
Then silence.
Massimo Melloni
Thus Massimo Melloni introduces his solo exhibition, which will be held from February 21st to March 8th at the E.Co.Point exhibition space, overlooking Lake Bracciano. On display is a collection of papier-mâché and wood sculptures entitled "Combustioni," small terracotta sculptures, and mixed-media paintings on canvas and wood.
The artist's style is recognizable in every one of his works; the use of tissue paper combined with color and other materials has been a hallmark of his work for many years, along with his deformation of forms and the simulation of materials using papier-mâché.
Massimo Riposati wrote of him:
"Massimo Melloni's work invites us to share his emotions, to share in his subtle pursuit of minimal vibrations, ineffable transparencies, and subtleties derived from the gentle modesty with which he lets color transport him. To maximize these sensations, Melloni lines the surfaces of his works, whether canvases or panels, with the thinnest gauze, capable of absorbing the color and rendering the transparencies sensitive and filtered, almost a rite of passage from a descriptive and analytical style of painting to an evocative and sensorial one. His colors meet without clashing, they court and possess each other discreetly, and emotional intensity dominates over pure chromatic intensity."
