Some works remain inside a studio for years, away from view, but no less alive because of it.
For Rome Art Week, Spazio Eughen opens the doors of the artist’s studio and presents a previously unseen selection of works from the 1970s, kept there for decades.
These works belong to a very specific moment in Eughen’s research: colour, paper, gesture, experimentation. Alongside them, a number of material assemblages from the artist’s final period will also be shown, a phase in which painting increasingly gives way to materials, fragments, objects and layered surfaces.
This is not a retrospective. It is rather an encounter between different moments in the work of the same artist, within the very place where those works were created and preserved.
The studio still holds traces of his practice: materials, surfaces, objects and everyday signs of work. The exhibition begins precisely from this presence — bringing back to light what had remained unseen and creating a dialogue between works that are distant in time, yet connected by the same need to transform matter.
