After the success of the first chapter, Beyond Chaos, François Reboul returns to Venice with From Chaos to Freedom, the second movement in an exhibition project that delves deeper into his painterly research and guides the audience through a journey from disorder towards a new possibility of balance.

On view from 29 August to 22 November 2026 at Spazio SV, housed in the former Scoletta di San Zaccaria, the exhibition presents a selection of new works alongside significant pieces from previous series, offering a comprehensive overview of the most recent developments in his practice.

A French artist based in Venice, François Reboul has been developing a body of work since 2020 that engages with the tradition of American Abstract Expressionism, confronting the languages of the New York School without merely evoking them.

His paintings emerge directly on the canvas, without preparatory drawings, through a process in which gesture, material, and time become the tools through which the work takes shape. While the major protagonists of Action Painting, from Jackson Pollock to Willem de Kooning, made chaos a natural condition of painting, Reboul instead chooses to embrace it as the starting point for a transformation.

This process lies at the heart of From Chaos to Freedom, where chaos is not a destination, but a living material to be traversed in order to reach a state of openness, balance, and inner freedom.
