AT CORIGLIANO’S DUCAL CASTLE, A DIALOGUE BETWEEN ART, ESSENCE AND CONTINUITY

CORIGLIANO-ROSSANO, 20 AUGUST 2026 – On Saturday, 12 September 2026, at 8:00 p.m., the Ducal Castle of Corigliano will host “SoeVe – The Essence of Form”, an artistic project born from the desire to transform a human and creative bond into a collective experience of art, beauty and sharing.

There are presences that do not dissolve with time, but find new forms through which to continue communicating. It is from this awareness that “SoeVe – The Essence of Form” was born, an event dedicated to Sonia Quercia, the soul of the SoeVe artistic duo, who through art succeeded in weaving together material, aesthetic research and poetic vision.

Not a memory entrusted to the past, but a light that continues its journey: the project emerges as an act of love, capable of recounting the strength of a path that continues through art and through the voices of those who still preserve its essence today.

Promoted by SoeVe and the L’ArteCheMiPiace Cultural Association, in collaboration with the White Castle Cultural Association, and under the patronage of the Municipality of Corigliano-Rossano, the event is part of the city’s summer programme of cultural events.

A RETURN TO THE CASTLE, IN THE SPIRIT OF CONTINUITY

The choice of the Ducal Castle of Corigliano carries a particularly significant meaning. It was within these very walls that SoeVe presented its final dress before its creative journey came to an abrupt interruption.

Returning to the same place today means reconnecting a thread that had been left suspended and giving a new voice to a dialogue that was never truly interrupted.

This return gains further significance through the connection with Maestro Lorenzo Bevacqua, pianist, lecturer at the “F. Torrefranca” Conservatory in Vibo Valentia and Artistic Director of the Glissando Chamber Music Festival. His music accompanied SoeVe’s final artistic experience at the Ducal Castle and now returns as part of a narrative that reconnects memory with the present.

THE OPENING EXPERIENCE

The inaugural evening will open with an Opening Experience, a performative moment conceived as an introduction to the exhibition and to the project’s narrative dimension.

SoeVe’s dresses and the works of Giuseppina Irene Groccia will enter into dialogue through a philosophical and poetic reading entrusted to Professor Giuseppe De Rosis, lecturer and cultural communicator, who has long been committed to promoting knowledge and developing paths of reflection through the languages of art.

His contribution will accompany the audience on a journey of listening and interpretation, in search of the resonances that unite expressive form and inner meaning.

The evening will also feature Assunta Scorpiniti, writer, journalist and Director of MUMAM – Museum of the Sea of Cariati, with an opening contribution dedicated to Sonia Quercia and to the most authentic meaning that runs through the project.

The performative dimension will be enriched by the participation of Tonia Mingrone, actress and performer, whose stage presence will contribute body and movement to the evening’s narrative.

TESTIMONIES AND THE STORY OF A PRESENCE

During the evening, several figures connected to Sonia Quercia’s personal and artistic journey will also take part: Ercolino Ferraina, artist and cultural promoter who has worked for years to promote art in the local area; Pino Savoia, artist and interpreter of a creative world in which Sonia shared experiences and paths; Paola Nigro, lawyer and friend of Sonia; and Liliana Zangaro, photographer and a significant presence in her associative and personal journey.

They will be entrusted with an initial moment of sharing through thoughts and personal testimonies. The narrative will subsequently open to the participation of the artists and friends present, who will be invited, should they wish, to offer their own contribution, reflection or testimony.

This moment will mark the beginning of a broader narrative, in which personal memory will intertwine with the collective dimension of art.

THE GROUP EXHIBITION

The narrative will flow into the group exhibition hosted in the halls of the Ducal Castle, the exhibition heart of the project.

The exhibition will bring together numerous artists, friends and interpreters of contemporary artistic research, invited to contribute their own languages to a collective narrative dedicated to art as a space for relationships, continuity and new creation.

The group exhibition will feature artists who shared part of Sonia Quercia’s personal and creative journey, alongside new artistic voices selected for their sensitivity and affinity of research.

The exhibition is curated by Mariateresa Buccieri, art historian and critic, curator and author, who has long been committed to the study and promotion of contemporary art through projects that intertwine artworks, the identity of places and the human dimension.

Her interpretation will accompany the event, conveying the complexity of the project and capturing, beyond its aesthetic dimension, its most authentic resonances connected to artistic research and the continuity of a creative journey.

A TRIBUTE TO THE WORK OF SONIA QUERCIA

Within the exhibition, particular attention will be devoted to Sonia Quercia’s artistic research, through a dedicated space featuring a selection of works capable of conveying her language and creative journey.

This section will form an integral part of the exhibition and will enter into dialogue with the other artistic presences, reinforcing the theme of continuity that runs throughout the entire project.

It will be a meeting between different experiences, generations and languages, demonstrating how beauty is a continuous movement, capable of preserving bonds, creating new connections and generating further visions through art.

THE OPENING AND THE EXHIBITION

At the end of the Opening Experience, the official inauguration will take place, with the ribbon-cutting ceremony and the opening of the group exhibition.

The exhibition will remain open to visitors in the spaces of the Ducal Castle until 20 September 2026.

The catalogue cover, dedicated to one of her works, will represent its symbolic and poetic mark, in continuity with the meaning of the project as a whole.

A CONTINUITY THAT BECOMES ART

“SoeVe – The Essence of Form” is thus conceived as a meeting between different languages, but above all as a testament to continuity: that of an artistic idea that does not end, because it finds new hands, new voices and new forms through which to continue living.

Art becomes the place where what seems distant becomes close again, where a trace becomes a story and a presence becomes light.
