Letizia Rostagno

She is a multimedia artist with a solid academic background. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, her thesis, developed with supervisors Roberto Daolio and Maurizio Finotto, was recognised for the quality of its research and subsequently presented at MAMBO – the Museum of Modern Art in Bologna.
Her career is characterised by an approach that allows her to move with ease between different expressive codes of contemporary art. The multidisciplinary nature of her work is a fundamental element. Rostagno masterfully uses a wide range of media, and her artistic research spans video, photography, artist's books, poetry, and installations. Her experimentation also extends to the conceptual use of technique, as demonstrated in her “Dioramas”, works created with prints on multilayer acetates.
Her artistic commitment is characterised by a strong thematic coherence, explored through a variety of languages and techniques and with a strong social and introspective connotation. In her video works, she has conducted a careful analysis of the relationship between communication and art, but one of the main strands of her research is the exploration of identity, with a particular focus on self-portraiture and the female condition. In many works, she has investigated the complexity of identity, its fragmentation and its connection with memory and personal history. Rostagno addresses issues of great social and political relevance, placing her art in a critical dialogue with the present. In addition to her artistic production, she plays an active and significant role as a cultural organiser and promoter. She organises and curates solo and group exhibitions and actively curates artistic and editorial projects.
She is the creator and curator of MARTE, an innovative “shared museum” project set up in the offices of the Municipality of Monzuno (Bo).
She has edited several publications of a poetic and essayistic nature and has considerable experience in the management and curation of artist archives (Lea Colliva and Nino Bertocchi, Mario Nanni, Greta Schödl, Umberto Spironello, Nullo Mazzesi, Archive of the works of the Municipality of Monzuno-BO).
Hes works are held in public institutions and private collections (MUSINF in Senigallia (AN), Verbamanent Artist's Book Archive, Nabilafluxus Archive, Rittana Museum, MARTE Museum in Monzuno (Bo), Rocca di Umbertide Centre for Contemporary Art (Pg). Her works have been published in volumes II, III and IV of “Il corpo solitario. L'autoscatto nella fotografia contemporanea” (The Lonely Body. The Self-timer in Contemporary Photography) by Giorgio Bonomi, published by Rubettino.
